Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

About March for Babies

Join us for a 3-mile walk in beautiful Baker Park in downtown Frederick.  The walk with start and finish in front of Frederick High School, where you'll find mission-focused activities, a children's area, food and music. Plenty of free parking is available at the High School.

Kalia

Across the country, hundreds of thousands of families, have been personally affected by the work of March of Dimes. Families like the Salifou Family of Western Maryland. Jeanine and Idris Salifou were excited about becoming first time parents. While considered high risk, the pregnancy seemed to be progressing normally, until as Jeanine approached 25 weeks, doctors were alarmed by her high blood pressure and swelling. They sent her immediately to Georgetown University Hospital and Kalia was born via an emergency c-section. Because of her early birth, Kalia faced many challenges, including heart issues, as well as breathing and feeding difficulties. She spent 6 months in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and then was transferred to pediatric rehabilitation hospital for two months before being able to go home. Kalia underwent almost a year of occupational, physical and speech therapies to overcome the consequences of her early birth. Kalia’s name is Hawaiian and means “something waited for”, which her parents find ironic since they waited for almost a year to be able to bring their daughter home. Kalia will turn fourteen in April and is looking forward to starting high school in the fall. The Salifou family is dedicated to making sure other parents are able to know the joy of a healthy child.
