The Montana Family

Cody and Katherine’s journey to parenthood took an unexpected turn when their son, Diego, arrived early at just 24 weeks, weighing only 1 lb. 10 oz. Kat’s pregnancy started normally, but in late November, she experienced side and back pain. An ER visit confirmed that baby Diego was healthy, and she was diagnosed with sciatica. As the weeks went by, Kat continued to feel discomfort, but each checkup reassured her that everything was fine. Then, on January 10, 2023, her contractions worsened. At 1:40 AM, she woke up in intense pain and noticed bleeding. Cody rushed her to the hospital, where she was already 10 cm dilated. Moments later, Diego was born and immediately taken to the NICU. For four months, Diego remained in the NICU, connected to multiple machines keeping him alive. Katherine had learned about March of Dimes through a friend whose child was also born prematurely. That knowledge became a source of hope during their NICU stay. The journey was filled with uncertainty, but through the care and dedication of the Redlands Community Hospital NICU team, Diego grew stronger each day. On May 6, 2023, after 120 days in the NICU, Diego was finally able to go home. Today, he is a thriving 2-year-old who loves singing his ABCs, blowing bubbles, and running around Disneyland. His story is a testament to resilience, love, and the power of life-saving care.
