This team was formed in honor of Truman Price, who was born at 23 weeks in August 2006. Born at just 20 ounces, he fought for his life, spending four months in NICU and undergoing, among other thing, three surgeries, brain hemorrhages, and months on a ventilator during that time. Without the work of March of Dimes and the research it funds, Truman would not be alive and thriving today. Now, at the age of 13, although Truman is happy and thriving, like most micropreemies, his challenges continue well beyond NICU. Simply put, every single day is harder for Truman and our family because of prematurity. We also walk in honor of Truman's brother, Elliott, who was also born early at 28 weeks in May 2012 and spent his first six weeks in the NICU. Because of early interventions taken while pregnant to prevent Elliott's pre-term birth and the efforts of the March of Dimes, Elliott is far healthier than his brother was and has not suffered the learning, eating, and physical challenges that his brother has. Prematurity has left him with asthma, however. The money we raise for March for Babies will support lifesaving research, services, education and advocacy that help babies like Truman and Elliott get a healthy start and a healthy childhood. In particular, the March of Dimes has announced a new goal of getting to the root of the molecular and chemical causes of labor to try and understand why some women, including myself, go into labor too early for unexplained reasons. Last year, our family had the honor of serving as the Dallas Ambassador Family. You can learn more about our family's story and about the March of Dimes at http://youtu.be/Ce89rmtZmWo.
