Most of you here reading this today know that Remi came into the world about 6.5 weeks early. While my pregnancy was easy, and smooth, we did find out around week 31 that there was a chance that I could go into early labor. Low and behold that chance became a reality as my water broke on Friday March 19th. In the whirlwind of a night, Remi Louise was born at a whopping 4 pounds 1 ounce at 1:39am.
This started a journey we were unprepared for. A journey that gave us a healthy baby but one that left us with questions, concerns, worry, and the unknown of the NICU. Since Remi was early, we understood she would still need to grow and develop but what we didnt know was the time that was going to take and the tool that it would take on us, espcailly myself, emotionally.
Over the 45 days of Remi being in the NICU she had to do more than just grow and develop. She often had desats (destaturations- slowing or dropping heart rate) when eating, specifically with bottle feeding. This of many other hurdles in eating on her own lead us to find that she had laryngomalacia which caused issues in her airway when trying to eat which also prolonged our time in the NICU. Myself and Tyler quickly adapted to the NICU life, learning the terms, switching on and off duty, talking to doctors, partaking in the daily check in's, and meeting other families like us. We used March of Dimes as a resource to educate ourselves in order to be an advocate for Remi, and further understand the risks and complications that come with having a preterm baby.
On May 3rd- just 3 days shy of Remi's due date we were able to take her home.
We joined this movement for other families that are like us, for families that may never have gotten to meet their Remi, for families that had to go home without their Remi, and for families that may endure this in their future.
We ask that you join our team, join our mission, in taking part to help ensure that every mom and future Remi are healthy.
Our team, Remi Lou's Crew is part of the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk. Please join us in the walk!
With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
