About March for Babies

Every step counts.

March for Babies is a campaign that connects millions of Americans united to improve the health of moms and babies in your community and across the country.

Together, we can give families the health information and resources they need throughout their pregnancies, and fund groundbreaking research to transform lives. We're also advocating for policies to keep moms and babies healthy and strong.

Because together with March of Dimes, each step forward leads to a healthy future for us all.

2026 Ambassador Family

The Culp Family

When Samantha and Landon Culp found out they were expecting, they were filled with excitement and hope. But their pregnancy journey quickly turned into a fight for survival — for both mom and baby. Late in her second trimester, Samantha received frightening news: their baby boy was underdeveloped and at risk for complications, including potential minor brain and lung defects. Despite the uncertainty, they stayed hopeful. But on May 1, 2021 — more than six weeks before her due date — everything changed. At just 33 weeks and 5 days pregnant, Samantha woke up in severe pain and rushed to the hospital. A non-stress test revealed that baby Scottie’s heart rate was dropping. After bloodwork, doctors diagnosed Samantha with HELLP Syndrome — a rare and life-threatening pregnancy complication. Her condition was so severe, she was given only a 20% chance of survival. Doctors acted quickly, delivering Scottie and starting Samantha on immediate treatments to stabilize her condition. Thanks to emergency medical care and the right medications, Samantha pulled through — but her recovery would take time. Scottie was born weighing just 3 lbs 2 oz. He was immediately taken to the NICU, where he spent 23 critical days. During that time, he developed jaundice, was placed on a CPAP machine for breathing support, needed oxygen, was tube-fed, and received lipids to help him grow. It took three days before his parents could hold him for the first time, and 17 days before they could give him his first bath. Throughout their NICU journey, the Culp family leaned on March of Dimes — not just for emotional support and educational resources, but through lifesaving advancements made possible by decades of research. Scottie received treatments like surfactant therapy and nitric oxide — both funded by March of Dimes — that helped support his fragile lungs and gave him the fighting chance he needed. Living in a maternity care desert, the Culps had to travel far from home to get the care they needed. And they’re not alone. Too many families across the country face similar barriers, which is why March of Dimes is working every day to improve access, support families, and fight for all moms and babies. Today, Scottie is a healthy and thriving 4-year-old — a joyful little boy who defied the odds. The Culp family has also experienced the pain of miscarriage, making their mission even more personal. They are proud to share their story as the 2026 March for Babies Ambassador Family — walking in honor of the care that saved Scottie’s life and in memory of the baby they lost. Join us. Walk with us. Fund the future for healthy moms and strong babies.
