2024 Ambassadors

Sam and David

On a cold November morning in 2023, Sam and her family’s lives took an unexpected turn. After a perfectly normal pregnancy, Sam was going into labor at 30 weeks. After arriving at Evanston Women’s Hospital, doctors did everything that they could to delay Sam’s delivery. However, due to the baby’s positioning, she needed to be rushed into an emergency C-section with the NICU team on standby. At 4:13 AM on November 2nd, a small yet tenacious David Morgan made his entrance into the world weighing 3 pounds, 2.5 ounces. David remained in the NICU for the next 48 days. Sam and her husband remained by his side as he hit every milestone. They watched as their little warrior learned to breathe, eat, maintain his temperature, and gain weight. On December 19th, 2023, David was discharged from the NICU just in time to spend his first Christmas at home with his family. When David’s parents think of their NICU experience, they say that it “feels like another lifetime” and that it was an extremely challenging time. But amidst the challenges, the March of Dimes helped give them hope. While in the NICU, David received surfactant therapy, a groundbreaking treatment developed by the March of Dimes. The intervention played a pivotal role in the development of David’s delicate lungs during his time in the NICU. Fast forward to today, and David is flourishing. He radiates boundless energy and joy, and is surpassing every developmental milestone. His infectious laughter fills his family home, a constant reminder of the immense light at the end of their difficult struggle. David’s family remains incredibly grateful to the March of Dimes and the dedicated medical team at Evanston Women’s Hospital who guided them through their NICU experience. David stands as a living testament to the resilience of our littlest warriors and the profound impact of organizations like the March of Dimes. Our Ambassador Family hopes that their story will help bring other families like theirs hope.
