Tony and Megan Klontz and Brennan and Madalyn

Nearly four million babies were born in the United States last year, and March of Dimes helped each and every one through research, education, vaccines and breakthroughs. The Eastern North Carolina Market of March of Dimes is pleased to announce the 2016 Greenville March for Babies Ambassador Family, Megan, Tony, Brennen and Madalynn Klontz. At 23 weeks pregnant with Madalynn, Megan’s water broke. She was admitted into the hospital and spent the next eight weeks trying to prevent a premature birth. Yet, at 31 weeks Megan had to have an emergency C-Section due to Placenta Previa. Placenta Previa is a serious medical condition where the placenta grows over the cervix, putting the mother and baby’s life in jeopardy. Madalynn was born eight weeks premature, weighing a mere three pounds, six ounces. “Initially we thought she was pretty healthy for a preemie, but when the medical team intubated her, they discovered she had Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of Newborns (PPHN),” said Megan. She went on to say, “The next couple of days would be the scariest of our lives! A lot of ups and downs and lots of medications trying to stabilize Madalynn.” Yet after six long weeks, Baby Madalynn was discharged from the hospital and welcomed home by her big brother, Brennen and her parents. Fortunately today, she is a happy, healthy and playful eight- month-old. “We decided to get involved with March of Dimes because our family has been profoundly affected by prematurity. I was a 29 weeker, my sister in-law was a 28 weeker, my brother in-laws were 33, 34 and 36 weeks. And of course Madalynn at 31 weeks,” said Megan. “Preemies are amazing little fighters, which is why we wanted to get involved to help other preemies and parents fight and support March of Dimes in their research.” Join the Klontz Family as they join the movement to give every baby a fighting chance, Saturday, September 17 at Town Commons during the 2016 Greenville March for Babies. Sign up to walk and fundraise at marchforbabies.org. March of Dimes is the leading nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
