The O’Connell Family Supports March for Babies

Our twins, Declan and Niall, were born at 34 weeks. Although we are so grateful they made it as far as they did despite a very difficult pregnancy, they spent 3 and 6 weeks in the NICU, respectively.

Declan battled jaundice, an underdeveloped cardiac artery, and was placed on CPAP to assist his breathing. Niall was struggling to breathe after he was born, and he received surfactant and was intubated in order to help his lungs develop. Two years and three months later, they are healthy, happy toddlers who are meeting their milestones and bringing so much joy to our lives.

We are walking in the March for Babies because we are so thankful for the exceptional care our twins received while they were in the NICU at BIDMC. To the doctors who acted quickly when they needed to and the nurses who advocated for our boys and cared for them when we couldn't - we are immensely grateful. We will never forget how indebted we are to the NICU staff at BIDMC, and we will always be looking for ways to give back.

WE NEED TO UNITE, CONNECT AND FIGHT FOR FAMILIES

With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.

At March for Babies: A Mother of a Movement you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.

Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
