“Sometimes it’s okay if all you did today was breathe”. As a NICU nurse who works alongside moms, birthing parents, and premature babies, I understand how crucial equitable care is for little ones who are just starting their lives. The Renee Schine Crown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Northwestern serves not only families in the greater Chicagoland area, but see’s families come from around the world seeking better medical care and life expectancy outcomes. While I am fortunate enough to work on a unit that tends to a wide array of needs for families I am dishearteningly aware of the maternal and infant heath disparities that exist, especially for families of color.
After being a NICU nurse for three years now I have felt the joy, grief, and every milestone in between that families experience in the NICU and I believe in MOD and their ability to help lessen the burden on my patients lives. Your donations will help fund research, provide vital education for families, and make a difference in giving babies the best start at life. Please consider making a donation to my page or visiting March of Dimes website to further read more on how you can help your communities! Thank you for giving a mom, birthing parent, and baby an equal chance at starting life!
