At 23 weeks my water broke. After a month long stay in the hospital as an antepartum patient, Jack Alexander DA’lessandro was born at 26 weeks and 5 days, weighing 2lbs and 5oz. He was a tiny eager boy who wanted to meet his mom and dad early.
The next 88 days were a series of gradual progressions. Working on breathing on his own from CPAP to high flow nasal cannula, growing, feeding from a tube to eventually a bottle, and regulating his temperature. He overcame some challenges including medical necrotizing enterocolitis and 3 blood transfusions. Those were scary times, but he received the best care and attention through it all.
Jack has now been home for 9 months and is thriving. He is the happiest boy who is constantly cracking little smiles, loves crawl and chase after mama and dada, and gets very excited when it’s time for food!
We are forever grateful for Jack’s Valley NICU family who treated him every single day as if he was their own. We love you all and cannot thank you enough for all you have done for our miracle boy Jack. Please know that your faces will be permanently etched on our hearts.
With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
