I joined the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk.
My son spent 177 days in Wellspan York NICU. Born at 26 weeks , he weighed 1lb 13oz. He faced a lot of obstacles, grade II brain bleed, 2 different blood infections, eye surgery, on and off being intubated, cpap, a gtube placement surgery. I went back to work full time after my maternity bills needed paid still and i knew my baby was in good hands. I traveled 1.5 hours from home through the week to spend time with james and spent every weekend in york pa for 6 months to be with him. I never would have been able to do that if i didn’t feel my baby was in the best hands. Between the doctors and nurses there is so much knowledge in that specific nicu. It is absolutely mind blowing to see what they are able to do with these tiny babies ! James got life saving medical care because of the skill and education our nurses and doctors had. Their care support team almost flawless , have you ever felt you could sit in a room with someone you just met in the most vulnerable time of your life with no judgment and just cry? You can with their care team. Any question I had anything I needed they had an answer or a resource for. James had 2 surgeries that I couldn’t be there during preparation for. Honestly, i couldn’t see my baby sedated and intubated again after he came so far even if it was just for surgery. (call me crazy say what you want, mentally that would have put me in the drain). They had my baby he was safe and he was comforted and he was genuinely loved in there. When we left the nicu walking out felt like a 20 pound weight dropping in my gut, i was starting a new chapter of my life with my family but i was also leaving behind a little family we had created in 6 months. They kept my baby alive and safe and happy , he is genuinely the best baby.
