We joined the movement to create positive change for moms and babies everywhere, especially those most at risk.
Meet Braxton Jeremiah Johnson
Born on March 13, 2018, Braxton is now a fearless 7-year-old with a big personality, unstoppable energy, and a love for all things adventurous — especially trampoline parks and roller coasters! He’s the kind of kid who keeps everyone on their toes and smiling all the way.
But Braxton’s story didn’t start with carefree laughter. The moment he was born, his family knew something wasn’t quite right. A room full of specialists soon confirmed that Braxton had Septo-Optic Dysplasia (SOD) — a rare condition that affects the development of his optic nerves, pituitary gland, and parts of his brain. He was also diagnosed with Optic Nerve Hypoplasia (ONH), which impacts his vision and hormonal balance. Braxton is completely blind and views the world through smell, touch and intuition.
Thanks to newborn screening, doctors discovered that Braxton was born with low cortisol levels, a life-threatening issue that would require daily medication for the rest of his life. Without this early test — just a simple heel prick — he could have gone into adrenal crisis before even making it home.
This is where March of Dimes made a life-changing difference. Their advocacy for newborn screening and support for families like ours is one of the reasons Braxton is thriving today. They help fund critical research, support hospital programs, and provide resources that give every baby the best possible start.
That’s why Brittany and Braxton walk every year — to honor his journey and to ensure that every family gets the same chance at hope, health, and healing. Braxton was a “Circle of Champion” leading impact for the health of moms and babies in 2023 and 2024, you will see our most recent pictures above.
Please consider donating to our fundraiser. Your support helps fund the life-saving programs and research that saved Braxton’s life — and could save countless others.
Every step we take is for babies like Braxton. Thank you for walking with us!
With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
