A little over six years ago we lost our son, Sam. He was just 26 days old.
Sam was born three months premature with his brother, Charlie. I had spent five weeks on bedrest at the hospital after undergoing an aggressive surgery in Denver. It wasn't enough to save them both.
Each year, 15 million babies are born prematurely and face a 7% fatality rate. These are daunting odds no parent should have to face.
The most difficult part of our journey was the uncertainty. Unfamiliar medical terms, unfathomable decisions and an ignorance is bliss attitude combined to leave us completely and totally wrecked.
Adam and I have found peace in sharing our journey - it also allows us to remember Sam and cherish Charlie in the process. We aim to continue down the path of healing by sharing our journey wider and using our story to increase awareness. Along the way we hope to raise some money for March of Dimes and their mission as well.
We are writing you today to ask for assistance in our mission. We will be marching on May 14th for Sam, Charlie and millions of other premature babies. We need a supporting cast - can you commit to our mission?
If you are able to participate, please join our team and walk with us on May 14th in Dallas. You can also consider donating to our cause.
If you are not able to do either, we ask that you take time to remember those who have been lost to or impacted by premature birth. We also ask that you advocate for the health of all moms and babies.
Charlie is our miracle baby, the persistence of human life against all odds. Sam is our hero, the little boy who gave it all to save his brother. We will walk for both in May and always.
Sincerely,
Allison & Adam
With preterm birth rates continuing to rise, the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations for childbirth, especially for women and babies of color.
At March for Babies: A Mother of a Movement™ you're lifting up communities, creating connections and taking action to make America a more equitable place and ensure that every mom and baby is healthy.
Together, we’re marching to raise funds and awareness to transform the health of all families!
