Important Update

Our March for Babies celebration is still on, but it looks a little different! We are rapidly preparing for a new, virtualized event that will be fun and engaging for everyone. This change in format aligns with the newly released CDC guidance for large events, to help ensure the safety and health of our participants. More details on our new format to come soon!

About March for Babies

Every step counts.

March for Babies is a campaign that connects millions of Americans united to improve the health of moms and babies in your community and across the country.

Together, we can give families the health information and resources they need throughout their pregnancies, and fund groundbreaking research to transform lives. We're also advocating for policies to keep moms and babies healthy and strong. Because together with March of Dimes, each step forward leads to a healthy future for us all.

The Hopkins Family

Slatetin Cross Hopkins

After 37 weeks, Adalyn Hopkins started having contractions and was taken to McLeod Health in Florence. On the morning of December 17, it was time for delivery and Adalyn was having difficulties and was given an emergency C section. Within 6 short minutes, Slatetin Cross Hopkins was born. During his initial assessment, the medical team realized his heart rate was low and started positive pressure ventilation and transitioned him to the NICU. With further evaluation, he was suffering from RDS from inadequate surfactant production in the lungs. His neurologic exams showed Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIG) which is lack of oxygen in the brain. They immediately incubated and then started therapeutic hypothermic to lower his body temp to protect his brain against reperfusion injury. On December 20, he was extubated and tests showed no evidence of brain damage. And on Christmas Eve, Slate was moved to the Intermediate NICU and his parents were able to then stay with him around the clock. After 17 days in the NICU, they were able to take Slate home to meet his siblings. The Hopkins are so grateful to the medical team at McLeod and are so thankful that Slate is developing remarkably and loves to be in nature and hear people sign to him.
