Every year, half a million babies in the U.S. are born prematurely. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many life long disabilities. The funds we raise in March for Babies support research that saves babies' lives.
As many of you know, we lost our son, Matthew Jackson Miller on October 15, 2007 to SIDS. I was nearly 6 months pregnant when my water broke, after 10 weeks in the hospital on bed rest, Matthew was born 7 weeks early.
Matthew spent 4 weeks in the NICU before coming home to our family. He was home for 6 weeks when we woke up and he wasn't breathing. He was exactly 10 weeks old when we lost our prince.
Matthew was in good health and the time we had with him is something we will always treasure. We know that the March of Dimes nd their amazing medical advances (primarily Surfectant which allowed his lungs to expand and breath on their own and indomethacin which closed his PDA allowed his heart to function properly).
